Near Mello OMGWTF
AN HOUR AFTER I SAY I'M PLAYING A VIDEO GAME I HAVE TO GO CAPSLOCK.

OH MY GOD. OTACON IS GAY.

I SERIOUSLY THINK HE IS. HE JUST HID IN THE BACK OF THE ENEMY TRUCK AND FOLLOWED SNAKE ALL THE WAY UP THIS GIANT COMMUNICATIONS TOWER SO HE COULD ASK HIM IF HE'D EVER BEEN IN LOVE.

AND THEN WHEN SNAKE WAS LIKE "WHAT"...

HE ELABORATED BY ASKING IF SNAKE THOUGHT PEOPLE COULD FALL IN LOVE EVEN ON A BATTLEFIELD.

AND SNAKE SAID YES. 8| WHAT.

THIS GAME IS GONNA BE EVEN MORE INTERESTING THAN I THOUGHT.

I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP, HIDEO KOJIMA, YOU ARE THE ONE WHO WROTE IT.....

If you don't believe me, or if you want to see for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3nzuv87ik4

Not the Worst Thing
So, taking a break from Ace Attorney to pay Metal Gear Solid (the first one). God, these were considered good graphics once, too. Also, Otacon is geeky and kind of a wimp. So in a game full of snarky battle-worn soldier people, he might be my favorite character thus far. Also, I see what my friend was talking about when he said he liked the game except when the female characters show up, because they're all characterized so badly and there's a deliberate effort to create sexual tension every time one of them shows up. Fanservice goes both ways, and when it's done poorly, it shows.

Also, Sita Sings the Blues might be the weirdest, most awesome thing I've ever seen. It's meaningful, musical, funny, and the whole thing was animated by one lady on her home computer. The whole thing.

OH MY GOD, GAME. OH MY GOD.

JUST WHEN I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA TAKE A CASE THAT WASN'T A MURDER.

*fist shake*

Though the first day did seem way too easy. I mean, we haven't even covered the pink paint that got everywhere...

Yep, it's a meme. :D Ganked this one from [info]ceirwy because it looked entirely too intruguing.

SEVEN DEADLY FANDOM SINS MEME

Vanity
(Self inserts, mary sues, and the likes)

[x] Written a self-insert fic? (When I was like eleven, yeah.)
[ ] Given an in-series character your hobbies, likes, or dislikes?
[x] Created a Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu? (See the answer to the self-insert question)
[ ] ... And then zealously denied they were one? (didn't know the term at the time. XD)
[ ] Invented and populated an alternate universe so complex it might as well be an original novel?
[ ] ...And then eventually decided to make it into an original novel?
[ ] Claimed a given character as YOUR boyfriend/girlfriend/exclusive drooling property?

(Off topic, I had a friend in high school who did everything on this list right up until graduation. I haven't seen her since, but I really hope she's gotten some sense knocked into her. If she ever crops up again here, we'll call her THAT one.)

Avarice
(the money you've shelled out for fandom goodies)

(Oh god after Ikebukuro I'm gonna lose this one so badly...)

[ ] Gone without basic necessities to get fandom necessities instead?
[x] Spent over a hundred dollars on fandom related good at once? (Ikebukuro, and I have no shame.
[ ] ...Over five hundred?
[x] Purchased dvds, doujinshi, manga, etc. directly from Japan? (Uh, given that I LIVE there at the moment...)
[x] ... when you don't speak/can't read Japanese? (This will no longer apply at the end of the year, since Japanese is all I'm studying)
[x] Bought music, food, cherry flavored lube because you saw your favorite character enjoy it in series? (Deathnote got me to start eating apples...now I just can't stop. XD)
[x] ...Because you saw it in a fic? (Oh god, this one's just embarrassing, but...rosewater lotion. But it fixed the broken skin on my ankles, so I'm not sorry.)

Total: 5

Envy
(Cosplay and mimicking characters)

[ ] Cosplayed an age/gender/weight/body inappropriate character? (But I'm considering it...)
[ ] Cosplayed a character you know nothing about?
[ ] Cosplayed as a love interest of your favorite character just to get cosplay attention from said character?
[ ] Made out with someone because of who they cosplayed?
[x] Stalked some one online/at a con/at school, because of who they cosplayed/RP/remind you of? (To be fair, they were standing at a booth buying something, so I just sort of stood there watching them until I could ask for a picture...this is the ancient YGO group from A-Kon, in case anyone saw those pictures)
[x] Claimed a character as your muse/soulbond/head mate? (For a while yeah)
[ ] Claimed you ARE a given character?

---
Total: 2

Wrath

(Flame wars, shipping, and other rage inspired by fandom)

[ ] Started or been involved in a flame war over a pairing?
[ ] ... Over someone not writing/RPing a favorite character "right"?
[ ] ... Over someone claiming 'your' character as theirs?
[ ] Written a fic just to bash a character you don't like?
[ ] ...and killed them horribly in the fic?
[ ] Hated a ship or character because of someone who supports/RPs it?
[ ] Ended a friendship because you don't ship the same things?

-----
Total: 0

(Really if I didn't hate conflict so much, I might have done some of this...)

Lust

[x] Written/RPed/drawn lemon as a virgin? (Oh ffs, who hasn't done that?)
[x] Used something you read in a fic/RP on your RL boy/girlfriend? (With no success, I might add...)
[ ] Wrote a completely impossible crack pairing smut which became a fandom staple?
[x] Can you recommend fics/arts by kink? (It's something you acquire when you've written for enough kink memes)
[ ] Suggested something on a kink meme and then fulfilled your own request?
[x] Written/enjoyed a kink that completely squicks you in RL?
[x] Discovered a kink because of fandom?

-----
Total: 5

Gluttony
(All nighters and other gluttonous consumption of fandom goodies)

[ ] Watched an entire series in one sitting? (Not enough patience.)
[ ] ...And it was more than twenty episodes?
[ ] Eaten only anime-related foods (pocky, sushi, etc.) during a marathon?
[x] Played any sort of anime drinking game?
[x] ...Created an anime drinking game?
[ ] Applied for a character in an RP just so that no one else could RP them?
[ ] Claimed all the fics for your fandom/pairing in a kink meme?

----
Total: 2

Sloth
(Blowing shit off you need to do for fandom things)

[x] Stayed up all night RPing/reading fic/watching anime/playing video games when you had school/work the next day? (That's like my life these days)
[x] Asked for an extension on something you didn't do because you were reading fic/RPing/watching anime? (Heh heh heh...
[x] Read/wrote fic or RPed while at school/work? (these days it's in my head since we can't have computers, but every goddamned day)
[x] ...And it was smut? (I have just enough shame about it to get a mirror screen cover for the ipod touch I'll be reading it on after christmas. That is all the shame I will ever have.)
[x] Made things up because you were too lazy to check series facts for your fic?
[x] Filled out a fandom related meme when you should have been working/doing homework? (I have an essay to re-write/expand by tomorrow, but I mean it's like 6 PM over here anyways...)
[ ] Created a fandom related meme when you should have been working/doing homework?

Grand total: 22

Ranking:
0-7: Fandom Virgin - You are a pure, untouched soul. You've never been in fandom before. In fact, you probably aren't sure what it is... Just don't ask us to be gentle, okay?

8-14: Fandom Saint - You're a saint! You've done so little wrong in fandom! ... In fact, you're kind of boring. Go out and write some smut already!

15-21: Repentant Sinner - You've made your mistakes in the past, but you're ready to let that go. With some good fic or fanart, you'll be in the fandom gods good graces again. Now get on your knees and show me just how sorry you really are.

22-28: Middle Way - You're a walking contradiction. For every good fic and thoughtful review there's a flame and a self-insert to balance it. You're a fence-sitter, neither good nor bad, though you have the potential for both. So make up your damn mind already!

29-35: Bad Influence - You're certainly not the worst that fandom has to offer, but your fandom soul is more than slightly tarnished. In fact, you might be responsible for the corruption of others. But you probably don't feel sorry about it.

36-42: Damned Sinner - Where am I? Where are we going? And why am I in this fandom shaped handbasket? ... Well, at least we've got really good smut here.

43-49: Fandom Demon - You've done it all, been around the fandom block, and baby, you don't even regret it. Satan could learn a thing or two from you.

...Naturally...

HRE OMGYAY
Went there last weekend partly because I said I would, partly because I wanted to see what was there, and partly as a kind of pilgrimage. Not in a hurry to go back. Animate is small, Mandarake is the rip-off I expected a sellback store to be, but Lashinbang is legitimately sweet. Small, but sweet.

AND I GOT ME SOME OF THIS:

Bit of a glare because it's still in the plastic sleeve and hung with some clear plastic tape that I used to hang up all my Kuro posters (besides the post-coital one), and it cost me 25 dollars, but dear god it was so worth it because OH MY GOD do you have any clue how rare anything actually drawn by Yana Toboso is? You can't see that signature very well, but it's hers. And Ciel in garters. CIEL IN GARTERS. The image is entirely too appealing to be legal.

I also got some of the hetalia sparkle cards, but who cares about those, right? XD All I need now is America and UK.

In other news, I finally cracked open the third Phoenix Wright game, and man do I find the weirdest characters to like. Case in point: Ron DeLite. Timid, either delusional or a professional thief, has cinnamon buns for hair, dresses like something out of a weird Castle In the Clouds kind of place--and I love him. XD Seriously, he's the cutest thing ever. And his theme music is just awesome. Adrian Andrews, too. I thought she was kind of irritating at first in the second game, but then when you figure out her motivations and whatnot, I was just like "oh my god, I want to help this woman more than anything". And then when I saw her again at the beginning of this case I literally went "ADRIAN! YES!" She's so cool. XD

God, that whole last case of the 2nd game just...it really put me through the emotional wringer. (Because I know that some people haven't in fact played the games, I'm going to put the major spoilers in white text to save them from what I ended up going through when I decided to give the fandom a taste). [The whole time after you find out what Matt's really up to, and then you have to defend him anyway because of Maya...In the middle of the trial the next day it hit me like a truck: this is what von Karma would do if he knew the defendant was innocent. This is what Edgeworth used to do for years and years. This is what happens when you don't set your sights on the truth, but instead go after swaying the verdict in your favor. This is how easy it is to manipulate things in your favor. You realize that you have become one of the people you try your hardest to defeat in court. Also, DeKiller...well, I hate to say that I have a certain amount of respect for him. He was a gentleman, and though his job wasn't the most honorable (by anyone's standards), he was a gentleman, and he valued trust and keeping his word, which is why he flipped his shit so badly when he found out about the video tape. I also lol'd when we had to cross-examine a radio. I lol'd hard.]

Also, first case, Dahlia. Now, thanks to the kink meme and my general inability to get the games as they came out/laziness when it came to actually playing them, I was spoiled to high heaven about the OHMYGOD plot twists of the third and fourth games, but I still would have seen most of it coming after the first case, now that I've gotten through it. [Seriously, though. Phoenix. Was. A. Retard. You do not EAT A GLASS BOTTLE, you idiot. I also figured that Mia wouldn't be the one to take Dahlia down all the way, especially not in the first case, and I knew we'd have to have some more exposure on the whole Diego thing, but I am glad she got to have this one victory.]

Also, I really like what they did to the testimony music for the third game. I really, really like it. It's like they finally got it right. I didn't like the second game's very much, and the first game's was okay. WHY WON'T THEY BRING BACK THE OBJECTION 2001 THEME, THOUGH. THE NEW OBJECTION MUSIC IS NOWHERE NEAR AS AWESOME AND TRIUMPHANT SOUNDING OMGCAPSLOCK. D: Although, I guess that theme will always be my Phoenix and Miles kicking courtroom ASS theme (and I guess Capcom agrees, if [the flashback bit at the beginning of the second game is any indication], so I guess it wouldn't be as fitting for these two games. Meh.

Also, Godot is the first prosecutor to make me lol from the get go. Everyone says he's a douche, and I guess he is, but I just love how everyone's like "OMG THE CONTRADICTION AND THIS AND THAT AND SRS BZNS" and he's just like "gonna drink some coffee now, get back to me when you have evidence k thanks".

So yeah. This is gonna consume my life again. Think I can finish the game this weekend? I kind of don't, given my track record. XD

Also, I got the idea and basic beginnings of a plot (known to some of you as bunnies, a term that never made sense to me) for a servantrio christmas-fluff piece, which honestly seems to defeat the whole purpose of a christmas fic/art/whatever [info]moon_maiden36 was cooking up for me...but maybe yours doesn't have to be about Christmas? XD My mind just sort of runs off on its own these days...

PayPal can be such a pain sometimes.

In other news, I finally got around to getting myself a flashcart for my DS. Which is why I'm complaining about Paypal. XD

It should show up sometime soon. I really finally caved and got it because the DS emulator on my computer is kind of slow. So I'll let you all know how it goes. :D

Even looking at Versailles these days makes my heart hurt.

I'm not used to my heart doing anything more than keeping me alive. Emotions are not my forté, not by a long shot.

Also, I'm fairly sure half my family could pass away and it wouldn't have this kind of effect on me.

Makes you wonder.

(Actually, it's spelled てんごく, but we'll deal with that later.)

So, here come the pictures I promised ages and ages ago. About the weekend in Ikebukuro. Not much else to say. Onto the pictures:

Before I say anything else: LOOKIT MAH DIGNIFIED FISH-MAN ICON. AREN'T IT FAB?

Okay, so the flea market thing never happened.

But guess what did?

THE ARCADE. :D

Great day. Arcades in Japan are something I can get into. They're like my ideal kind of arcade: you have to do things in such a roundabout way to get what you want, it's awesome. Learning experience, to be sure (kind of expensive learning experience), but I found my new favorite game. It's a variant on that whole sliding-shelf-knocks-the-coins-in game, but there's a shelf stacked HIGH with boxes of snackage, and there's like a tower of ritz cracker boxes or something holding it up, and with a little patience and about 6 dollars, you can get the entire tower to fall into your slot. And while you're waiting for that to happen, you just sit back and let gravity do the work for you. Seriously.

Also, I have christmas presents for all my LJ friendses. Awesome Christmas presents. :D Stay tuuuuned~~
